Photo Blogging Challenge: Patriotic

Friday, July 31, 2015

I quit my job this month and am starting a new one next week. Even though I've had a week off work, I haven't had the chance to go out as much as I'd have liked. I thought that the ''Patriotic'' theme would be quite easy to photograph but for some reason I just couldn't get many theme-related pictures. Anyway, here are my 5 pictures for the Photo Blogging Challenge this month:

Beetroot-cheese-garlic salad

As an Estonian living in England, I get homesick once in a while and I've found that the best way to heal it is with food. Beetroot salad is a typical Estonian celebration food. My mum used to always make this salad for birthdays/at Christmas, so when I get a bit nostalgic I like to have it.

Fish and chips

We celebrated Tristan's birthday down south in a little seaside town called Lyme Regis. The same evening we arrived, I had a massive craving for a traditional English food - fish and chips. When I first moved here I didn't really understand what was so special about battered fish, chips and mushy peas. Over the years I have learned to love it. I still don't know what makes it so special but I guess it makes a such a perfect combo.

Town view

I am not a massive fan of big cities. If I could live anywhere in England, it would be in a nice little town somewhere near the sea. Small towns seem very English to me - friendly people with their cute doggies, sitting in small pubs, making jokes and laughing loud.

The Union Jack

Tristan and I walked around Manchester last weekend. I spotted so many flags on buildings around town.

Australia

Ah, such a beautiful country! Tristan thinks this pub is a disgusting chain but I like the name, it reminds me of our trip last year.

  1. Love your selection. That photo of the fish and chips makes me hungry though. I'll have to find a recipe for beetroot salad. This is something with which I am not familiar.

  3. There is a lady here that makes beetroot burgers that really aren't too bad. I'll have to check out the salad. It is as colorful as the burgers!

  4. Your food photos make we want to reach into the computer screen for a taste! You reminded me how some of our strongest memories are associated with food. Thanks for that, and good luck at your new job.

  5. I think you did a great job on the theme for July. Nicely done! I like the flag photos. And I'm a fan of fish and chips. When I was in Ireland a few years ago, it was one thing I knew I had to try!
